If you are planning a trip
to another country, you should familiarize yourself with
international travel rules. There are slight differences in the
rules for international and domestic travel.
The airport security screening process is the
same for both international and domestic travel. You will need
to pass through the appropriate airport security checkpoints.
You will probably be in the same lines as domestic travelers.
You need to remove metal items from your pockets. You should
put these items in your briefcase, purse or carry-on luggage.
This will make it easy for you when you get to the screener to
remove your shoes so they can be x-rayed. You should wear shoes
that slip off and on easily.
When you arrive at the airport, you will need
to check in at the appropriate airline counter. Your checked
baggage will be examined. Most airlines thoroughly inspect
checked baggage looking for explosive, flammable, or illegal
items. You will need to have your identification ready.
Depending on the country you are traveling to, the forms
of identification you may need include a visa, passport,
birth certificate, or driver's license.
When you are planning your trip, you should
find out what forms of identification are necessary for the
country you will be visiting. Take only the identification that
is necessary.
You should also check with your airline to
determine when you should be at the airport for departure. Some
airlines require a minimum of four hours. If you are traveling
from an airport that has both international and domestic
flights, there will probably be a long line at the security
checkpoints. You want to make sure you are there in plenty of
time to get through airport security and to get to your gate on
time.
In-flight travel rules apply to international
travel as well. Check the website of your airline to see what
rules they have. International flights cover long distances.
Both adults and children get restless on long flights. As with
domestic travel, you should not make jokes about bombs or
hijacking or anything that can be misconstrued as a threat. You
should follow the instructions of the flight attendants.
When traveling, common sense should prevail and
your trip will be successful.
